Physiyoga About

Your First Visit

This page contains all you need to know for your first visit at PhysiYoga.

All consultations are individual and one to one with your physiotherapist. We do not divide time between other clients.

What to Bring

You should bring the following items to your appointment:

  • Test results – Xrays, MRI, CT’s and the report.
  • Shorts & singlet.
  • Women: It’s best to wear a regular bra that doesn’t cover much of your spine.
  • Footwear – particular orthotics you wear (or “should” wear) and footwear that could be contributing to your problem.

What to Wear

You may be required to remove some clothing so that the area of interest can be examined properly. Loose fitting clothing is best and if you prefer not to undress, bring a pair of shorts and a singlet that can be rolled up or moved easily.

Referrals

You don’t need a GP referral to visit a physiotherapist, unless you are going through Workers Compensation or Motor Vehicle Accident insurance claims.

Payment

We have a HICAPS machine for direct claiming with your health fund. Physiotherapy is not covered by Medicare unless you are on an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program through your GP. A guide to pricing can be found here.

Initial Consultation

Please allow one hour for your appointment, but it is best to arrive an extra 10-15mins early to complete some necessary paperwork.

Your Physiotherapist will discuss the reason for your visit and take a detailed history of your problem. It might be useful to consider the answer to the following questions you are likely to be asked:

  • What is the area of concern?
  • What does it feel like?
  • What makes the problem better or worse?
  • How do you sleep?
  • How do you feel throughout the day from waking to going to bed?
  • What are your goals for physiotherapy?
  • Do you have any other symptoms. Pins and needles, tingling or numbness? Incontinence? Breathing issues? Gastro-intestinal upsets?

Your Physiotherapist will complete a detailed assessment to determine the cause of your problem. There is a lot to understand and assess on your first visit in order to formulate the right treatment plan for you. For this reason, the bulk of the treatment process will take place in the following session.

Assessment may also include a postural and/or biomechanical (movement) assessment. This can be done on the first or later sessions.

Cancellation and No-Show Policy

Our time is valuable to us and to clients on our wait list. We require 24 hours notice for cancellation of your appointment so your time may be filled by someone on the waiting list.

Sometimes we encourage you to book appointments in advance to achieve a highly desired appointment time. We are happy if you decide early on that you no longer require the appointment. If we are not given reasonable notice of at least 24 hours prior to cancellation, a $25 cancellation fee will be charged. Thank you for your understanding.

If you do not call and cancel or reschedule you may be charged the full cost of the missed appointment.

Claiming for Classes

If you’d like to claim through your health fund to attend our PhysiYoga Group Physiotherapy sessions, you will require a pre-class assessment. We have developed a specific screening tool to identify any issues with strength, balance, control or flexibility which may lead to injury. These issues can be addressed in any of our classes and our skilled therapists will help you find the right class for you.

Our Quickstart Program is designed to fast-track you into the groups and is fantastic value. See our pricing page for more details.

Compensable clients

This includes clients whose treatments are covered by a motor vehicle insurance claim, Department of Veteran Affairs and WorkCover. You will need to provide:

  • Your GP’s referral, including injury date and the area of injury.
  • Your claim number (if applicable).
  • Address and contact details of your insurance company.

Please be aware that If your claim is not accepted or if your cover is withdrawn, you will be liable to cover the cost of your treatments and any outstanding fees incurred.

Follow-up visits

The frequency and duration of follow-up visits will be determined with your Physiotherapist. Standard follow-up visits are 30 minutes, but they can be extended to 45 or 60 minutes as required.
